My interest in learning the health benefits of Tea heightened drastically after my breast cancer diagnosis in 2011. However, my first introduction to Tea was from my sweet mama when I was a child. My mother was an avid coffee drinker, but she occasionally made English-style Tea for my sister and me. Lipton was the Tea in our cabinets which certainly was nothing fancy, but it got the job done. The hot Lipton tea mixed with just the right amount of PET evaporated milk and sugar in our favorite teacup was delicious. I loved sitting with my mom at the kitchen table and drinking our Tea together. She told how her grandmother Ida would make Tea for her in the same manner as a child. Mom told us this story every time we had tea time together, which is now a cherished memory indeed.
I became increasingly interested in learning as much as I could about herbal teas and their many health benefits after the countless conversations with the oncologist and breast center physicians at the University of Chicago Breast Center. Sadly, the University of Chicago Breast Center was a place that became all too familiar to me in 2011. While there, I had plenty of time between appointments to read, study and take notes on the many health benefits of herbal teas. The breast specialist at the University of Chicago requested that I participate in a study they were conducting to see the effects of Green Tea in reducing breast cancer cells in patients. The study involved patients receiving high doses of Green Tea in capsule form to monitor which dosage produced the most significant results in killing cancer cells. While it is well-known that Green Tea aids in combating breast cancer cells, the study would inform doctors of which doses have the best results in the shortest time.
